This FAQ answers questions related to the use of Ikas Web Data Editor for SQL Server.

 

Q: What is required to install Web Data Editor?

A: Windows 2003 server or above with IIS, Microsoft Dot net 3.5 framework.

Q: How can I connect to MS SQL server database?

A: You can connect to the MS SQL server by Windows or SQL authentication.

Q: Can multiple users connect to databases through the Web Data Editor?

A: Yes. Multiple users can connect to databases through the Web Data Editor.

Q: Can we connect to multiple database servers and databases?

A: Yes. We can connect to multiple database servers and databases.

Q: Can we perform operations in a secure manner?

A: Yes. All the operations are enabled on a secure https connection.

Q: Can others view my SQL database and data in a shared environment?

A. No. Others cannot view as it is protected by user credentials.

Q: How is the secure connection enabled in Ikas Web Data Editor?

A. This is enabled through SSL by installing certificates given by authorized certifiers like Verisign / Comodo or self signed on the IIS Web server.

Q: How do I establish a secure connection to my SQL server?

A. You can enable SSL on the MS SQL Server through SSL certificate installations provided by authorized certifiers like Verisign / Comodo or self signed on your SQL server. To know more about this, please read the instructions provided by Microsoft here or read the SQL Server manual or contact Mcirosoft.

Q: What are the operations that I can perform using Web Data Editor?

A: Following are the various operations that one can perform on the DB.

  • Insert records,
  • Update records,
  • Delete records,
  • Sorting the columns,
  • Switch to different databases.

Q: Can I set date & time to my cultural settings?

A: By default, application will show the data types ‘numbers’ and ‘date and time’ based on the database user culture settings. Application can be configured to override the cultural setting for all users.

Q: Can I sort the columns?

A: Yes, sorting can be done on any of the columns. For the first click, the column gets sorted in ascending order and for the second click the same column gets sorted in descending order.

Q: Why am I not able to login?

A: Invalid user name and / or password can result in login failure.

Q: Can I do administrative DB functions of SQL server using this tool?

A: No. This tool enables the user to do DB manipulation functions like data insert, update and delete.
